Daniel, David and Eliacim were used in the County of Nice about XIIIe century as firsts name among Christians. Daniel was called the notary public of Saorge in 1092 too. And Daniel was used as a first name yet in 1326 in the village of Tourrette-Levens. Were some of these people of Jewish origin? It is very possible, and I think likely in the case of "Eliasim". Also David was used as family name, aldeady about 133 in Guillaumes.
Paul Canestrier adds that in the Middle Age enough Jews lived in the town of Nice, and that other Jews arrived from Spain in 1492, and from Oran about 1600. Among their second names are Avigdor, David, Gavay, Lattès, Lévy, Lopes, Montel, etc.
